this book is amazing. i just started reading it again on the train today... i originally bought it while stuck at la guardia, just to keep myself occupied. it's been a while since i last picked it up, and after today i'm not sure how i could have lived without it. yes, it is that good.

david sedaris has been called "the freshest voice in American writing" and this book certainly exposes his talent. while i haven't read any of his other works, they're on my list. (if you have any recommendations, of course let me know)

naked is constructed as a collection of 17 autobiographical essays, but the twist comes in when you realize each essay is more fiction than fact. each one is told from the perspective of a different "character" although they are all unmistakably sedaris. there are pieces of his life interwoven throughout, and the stories are spun so casually you'd swear it was all god's honest truth. from his days as a tic-ridden child to his dreams of a profession finding discarded items in the street, you'll be laughing so hard it hurts.
